6 day Colorado mountain ultra ..."I bloody well did it!"

This was the singe hardest, biggest physical endeavour in my life (to date) and I bloody well did it. In fact I couldn’t have done more. I wonder what else I can do?! Well, starting next week I am officially going to find out, because I am picking up again with the marvellous Russell! New goals – Tarawera 100km 2025, and I can’t wait. Let’s go Russell! :)

Robert Edges To Marathon Des Sables With 62 km Done

Auckland athlete Robert is going from zero running background to entering 'The Toughest Race On Earth' Marathon Des Sables in 2018. He is improving by leaps and bounds with a comprehensive programme and has just completed his first big one, the 62km Tarawera Ultra in Rotorua. Well done Robert, you are on the way!

Goretex Transalpine Run 2011 Photographs

Magnificent 250km run over the Alps from Germany to Italy over 8 days. Russell and Denise Maylin enter as a mixed team, experiencing highs and lows. Magnificent and tough off road running at altitude with great athletes for company. Organisers unfortunately set up some average and some absolutely appalling accommodation and food during the week. Scuol is a standoubt for the negative.... however...

Leadville Trail 100 miler 2010 - Part 2

And so, with my weight down to 77.59 kgs or 170.7 lbs, I found myself once again wandering the dark streets at 0300 on Aug 21st heading to race start in the middle of 'town' corner 6th and Harrison. Once again my wife and I grabbed a coffee from the shop near the start and sat down relaxing.

Leadville Trail 100 miler 2010 - Part 1

One of my favourite races. The altitudes of 10,000 to 12,500 feet in the mountains around Leadville, Colorado make this a very testing run for those living at sea level. The athlete, in my opinion, must be well prepared for this element and plan acclimatisation. Having said this its just a great race and a true test for the endurance off road runner.
